Friction between solid particles entering the piston and the seal causes the piston rod to galling. On-site repairs can be performed in a short period of time using a friction reducing repair agent.

1. Surface treatment

(1) Heat all damaged parts with flame to melt any liquid or oil immersed in deep metal. Then, clean the piston rod with cleaning agent, repeating several times, until there is no dirt on the piston rod.

(2) After drilling the ends of the wound cleanly, use a hand-held grinding wheel equipped with a suitable cutting wheel to expand the wound along the full length, and the repaired part forms a groove shape. The repaired part is slightly wider and slightly deeper than the original damaged part.

(3) Thoroughly clean all the parts to be repaired with the cleaning agent again.

2. Repair process

(1) Mix the anti-friction repair agent of the sub-plastic industry evenly in proportion, and carefully apply it to the surface-treated part to make it close to the grinding surface and prevent air from entering. Application of material is then continued until the build-up layer of material formed in the damaged portion is slightly above its original size. It is recommended that you use the appropriate template to complete this process.

(2) After the repair material is completely cured, restore it to its original state with fine sandpaper. During refurbishment work, care should be taken to avoid damaging the original chrome finish.
